In this lecture, Dr. Süß will examine the impact of digitalization especially rogue algorithms and surveillance technology on everyday life. He will argue that although data is no conventional product, it must be the prime object of responsibility and sustainability in the 21st century. Areas of study may include YouTube kids videos, the routes of fiberoptic cables, and algorithms used in the criminal justice system and in the evaluation of teachers as well as ownership of user content on digital platforms. Gunter Süß is assistant professor and director of studies of the Institute of Competence, Communication, and Languages at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. His research interests include cultural theory, digitalization, film and TV studies, popular culture, and contemporary cultural conflicts.
