The intensive use of industrial fertilizers is pushing the natural nutrient cycles to their limits, having negative impacts on water, soil and climate change. Nitrogen and phosphorous recovery from waste water is a promising option for a sustainable nutrient supply in future. The lecture shows the current situation of fertilizer supply and waste water treatment as well as potential technical solutions for nutrient recovery, which are currently investigated.
